In the forum http://www.euconcours.org I run a
recursive PHP procedure that allows to have n levels of reply.
It run each 3 minutes and produce the html files only if there is a change in the postgres database.
All html files are compressed in html.gz (Netscape and IE support gzipped files)
Give a try http://www.euconcours.org/index.html.gz
Less traffic , less computer charge, immagine if 1000 concurrent users run the recursive procedure all togheter
it would be a bit heavy
Also the index.html is 16k while index.html.gz is 3k , 100 requests generate 1.6 Mb of traffic while gzipped 300K
